Hello, this is Neil's blog - mostly about looking for interesting things in life, which I like to photograph. It's slow blogging, so updates can be sporadic. Click on any photo to see the full size version.

Crystal Palace again

We went back to Crystal palace just before the leaves fell from the trees and had a poke round Crystal palace park.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_Palace_Dinosaurs  is where you'll find that IIRC Richard Hawkins and Benjamin Owen sculpted a lot of chubby dinosaurs, shortly before Darwin wrote origin of the species. It's pretty fascinating to see how Victorians thought dinosaurs would look - a little more like fictional monsters than giant lizards.  The other strange thing not a lot of people notice round Crystal palace is the abandoned Soviet style architecture just down the hill from the antenna the whole area feeling very different from the rest of Crystal palace.  You know about the history of the place. Huge Victorian attraction, burnt down, got a nice park with dinosaurs, good views across London. It makes you wonder who wanted , and why, to build these benches and who stops on them for a picnic.
